Golf, Lakes, and Privacy: Why Hot Springs Village Is a Vacationer's Hidden Gem
Most people planning an Arkansas trip head straight for downtown Hot Springs, the bathhouses, and the tourist strip. Fewer of them know about the 26,000-acre gated community tucked into the Ouachita Mountains fifteen minutes away, and that's exactly why we like staying quiet about it.
Hot Springs Village is, according to the Hot Springs Village Property Owners' Association, the largest gated community in North America. It doesn't market itself like a resort town, which is part of the appeal if you actually want a vacation that feels private.
Nine golf courses, and you'll rarely wait for a tee time
The Village has 9 championship golf courses spread across 171 holes. Compare that to most vacation towns where two or three public courses handle every visitor in the area, and you start to see why guests at Lago Vista keep telling us golf was the best part of their trip. One recent guest, Chris from Paragould, mentioned playing a round during his family's stay and called the whole visit "wonderful" and "so accommodating."
Eleven lakes, and most vacationers have never heard of any of them
Beyond the golf, the Village has 11 recreational lakes, two full-service marinas, and two beaches. Lago Vista sits right on Lake Lago, with Lake Coronado and Lake Cortez about a 20-minute walk away. Guests have called the view from the back deck "gorgeous," with plenty of wildlife to watch without leaving the porch.
Gates mean privacy, not just security
The Village runs its own police force and four fire stations, with manned and electronic gates at every entrance. That infrastructure exists for residents, but it also means visitors get a level of quiet you don't find in a town built around tourism. No traffic cutting through to somewhere else, no strip of hotels lining the main road, just neighborhoods, trails, and lakes.
What this looks like from Lago Vista
We built our stay around easy access to all of it: a full kitchen, a game room with foosball and air hockey, and a location close enough to the golf courses and lakes that you don't need a second car once you're in the gate. Over 30 miles of hiking and biking trails and a 13-court tennis center round out what's available a short drive from the front door.
If you're looking for a vacation that trades crowds for quiet, Hot Springs Village is worth knowing about, and we'd love to host your stay at Lago Vista while you explore it.
