Why Lago Vista Is Designed for Rest, Not Just Sleep

Sleep and rest sound like the same thing. They're not. You can get eight hours in a hotel room next to an elevator shaft and still wake up wound tight. According to research from Skyscanner, 78% of travelers say it's quite or very important to completely switch off while on vacation, but only 33% were actually satisfied with their sleep quality on their last trip. That gap is the whole reason "sleep tourism" has become one of the biggest travel trends heading into 2026, with the global sleep tourism sector now valued at roughly $690 billion, according to Yahoo Travel's reporting on the trend.

What actually helps people rest away from home

It's rarely a gadget. Skyscanner's survey found travelers credit better sleep on vacation to calm, clutter-free accommodations (22%), freedom from everyday life stresses (22%), and increased physical activity and fresh air (19%). Reduced caffeine plays a role too. None of that is about a smart mattress. It's about the space itself not working against you.

How we actually built Lago Vista around this

This is why the details that don't show up in a listing photo mattered most when we set up the home: real blackout window treatments in every bedroom instead of thin curtains, bedrooms separated from the main living space so a late riser doesn't wake anyone else, and a setting quiet enough that you're not fighting road noise or thin walls to fall asleep in the first place. One recent guest, Thomas, described his stay simply as "quiet, peaceful, well designed," which is exactly the combination we're going for. It's not an accident that word shows up in review after review.

Guests are already paying attention to this, even if they don't call it "sleep tourism"

Skyscanner also found that 38% of travelers now intentionally choose where they stay based on sleep-related features, and 20% say they'd pay more for a sleep-optimized room outright. That number matters more for a whole-home stay than a single hotel room. When you're booking a house for your family or friend group for several nights, the quality of rest everyone gets isn't a side detail, it's most of what determines whether the trip actually feels like a break.

Rest is the point, not a side effect

A vacation that leaves you as tired as you were before you left isn't much of a vacation. We didn't design Lago Vista around square footage and photos first. We designed it around the idea that you should actually feel recovered by the time you head home. If that's what you're looking for on your next trip to Hot Springs Village, we'd love to have you.
